Authorities said 79 were injured in the Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures and one more was injured in the Mie prefecture.
A man was also missing after seeking refuge near Kagoshima.
The Japan Meteorological Agency told residents to remain vigilant because of the continued threat of landslides and flooding. Some homes were left without electricity while train traffic and flights were cancelled in the affected areas.
Bullet train services at Tokaido Shinkansen were stopped Thursday while the Kyushu Railway suspended its service to the region through Friday because the storm was moving so slowly.
More than 260,000 Kyushu Electric Power customers across seven prefectures lost power during the storm.
Meteorologists said 23 inches of rain fell over 24 hours in some areas of Kyushu as the storm’s slow pace threatened to add to that number.
