Five people were shot at an adult education center in southern Sweden on Tuesday afternoon with four being sent to local hospitals in what officials are calling “deadly violence” at the school.

Officials have not been clear if a suspect or suspects have been captured or if they were among those shot. Advertisement

The incident happened at Campus Risbergska in Orebro, Sweden, about 125 miles west of Stockholm. Four of the wounded had been transported to Orebro University Hospital.

Jonas Claesson, who represents local hospital services, said one person was critically injured. Police said the incident is being treated as an investigation for attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offenses.

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m., local time. One teacher told local media that fewer students had been on campus because it was an exam day and many left for home after testing.

Those students and staff remaining were ordered to shelter in place during the shooting.

Authorities said on Tuesday that the danger was “still not over” and more injuries could be reported. Students at nearby schools have also been asked to remain sheltered in place while the investigation into the shooting continued on Tuesday. Advertisement
