NATO forces have intercepted another Iranian ballistic munition in Turkish airspace, the defense alliance and Ankara said.
“A ballistic projectile, determined to have been launched from Iran and to have entered Turkish airspace, has been neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean,” Turkey’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The incident occurred Monday.
“All necessary measures are being taken decisively and without hesitation against any threat directed at our country’s territory and airspace,” the ministry continued. “All developments in the region are being closely monitored with our national security as the top priority.”
NATO spokesperson Allison Hart confirmed the interception.
“NATO is prepared for such threats and will always do what is necessary to defend all Allies,” she said in a statement.
Iran’s target was not clear.
Since the war began on Feb. 28, Iran has retaliated by firing missiles and drones toward Gulf countries home to U.S. assets.
NATO forces have intercepted four Iranian ballistic munitions in Turkish airspace since March 4.
