Ukraine has hit a plant in Russia that manufactures control systems for missiles, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday.
“The plant produced electronics and components for Russian missiles. The very missiles that strike our cities, our villages and civilians,” he said. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi informed Zelensky of the strike.
An attack via Iranian-made Shahed drone hit Kharkiv, Ukraine, Wednesday and killed two people and injured five.
The missiles that hit the Kremniy El plant in the Bryansk region of Russia were British Storm Shadows, Ukraine’s military said.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Telegram that the attack was “part of a systematic effort to reduce the military-economic potential of the Russian aggressor,” adding that the “target was hit, and significant damage to production facilities was recorded.”
Local Russian authorities said at least six civilians are dead and 42 were injured, calling it a “terrorist missile attack.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said it was “obvious that the launch of these missiles was impossible without British specialists. In order to prevent such barbaric actions by the Kyiv regime from continuing, the special military operation is being conducted,” meaning the continuing war since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Bryansk is northeast of Ukraine and near the border but outside of active combat areas. Attacks of industrial sites are part of Ukraine’s strategy to lower Russia’s missile production ability. Moscow continues to hit Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure with missiles.
Zelensky said more talks with Russia and the United States may happen next week as President Donald Trump still wants to end the war.
