British police on Monday charged two inmates with murder for killing Welsh musician Ian Watkins over the weekend.
Watkins, the former Lostprophets singer, was serving a 29-year sentence for more than a dozen child sex offenses at His Majesty’s Prison Wakefield in West Yorkshire, where he was stabbed to death on Saturday.
Officers were called to the prison at 9:39 a.m. local time and found Watkins, 48, suffering from serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two inmates who were held on suspicion of murder were charged on Monday, West Yorkshire Police said in a statement identifying the suspects as Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43.
Gedel and Dodsworth were scheduled to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
Watkins, the former vocalist of Lostprophets, pleaded guilty in November 2013 to 13 child sex charges, including attempted rape of a very young child as well as other crimes targeting two babies.
